ceecon is the largest multidisciplinary congress in the German-speaking world dedicated to the study of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Bringing together scholars from around 30 countries, the congress showcases the latest research on the region and provides a forum for international academic exchange.
Under the theme, "(Un)Certainties", ceecon26 examined the social and geopolitical uncertainties shaped by regional conflicts and wars, global crises, and challenges to the international order. Across more than 70 panels, a keynote lecture, and discussions, researchers from different disciplines explored how uncertainty is experienced, negotiated, and transformed across the region.
The congress brought together established scholars and emerging researchers to discuss current research, exchange perspectives, and develop new connections across disciplinary and national boundaries.

ceecon is jointly hosted by the German Association for East European Studies (DGO) and the Freie Universität Berlin. In 2024 it is organized in cooperation with the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS).
Living Through Uncertainty invites participants to explore how people live through moments when the future is unclear. By bringing together research, storytelling, and performance, the event transforms uncertainty from an abstract concept into a shared human experience.
